Director of Logistics


This position is responsible for leading and execution of all daily operations of the warehouse and logistics activities. It ensures the receiving, distribution, and freight transportation functions meet Company safety, quality, and regulatory standards for perishable food products. Oversees management of drivers, warehouse, and dock employees while executing all company standards and operating procedures to maximize profitability and ensure achievement of all goals. Reports into the Director of Logistics and is a key member of the Operations and Management Leadership Team (MLT).


  • Coordinate loading and unloading of trucks for all deliveries and shipments
  • Ensure accuracy and timely processing of customer orders and the receiving of product from various suppliers by reviewing purchase orders (PO), bills of lading (BOL), and work orders, as well as record keeping  of product transfers between locations
  • Oversee the preparation/submission of daily and weekly paperwork; creation and verification of transfer order paperwork; review of all the incoming transfer orders for accuracy; and review  of any/all necessary activity reports for management
  • Oversee the protection of finished goods inventory assets of the Company and control all inbound and outbound deliveries
  • Manage and maintain the cycle count program and the accurate counting of materials and finished product complete physical inventory count; oversee proper disposal of surplus material or scrap products
  • Oversee all maintenance of the Company warehouse equipment, including all electric pallet jacks and forklifts, bailers, freezers, and coolers
  • Oversee quality assurance processes and procedures related to warehousing, distribution and transportation
  • Ensure that robust and effective logistics-related safety, security, and regulatory employee training programs are maintained
  • Manage the warehouse and logistics operations budget
  • Ensure all refrigerator and freezer temperature logs are maintained
  • Responsible for ensuring that the warehouse, shipping and receiving, refrigerated and freezer areas are kept clean and free of hazards, and are working properly, reporting any issues immediately
  • Provide leadership in coaching, education and training of all SOPs and regulatory compliance procedures for Operations team; seeks assistance as needed from other training resources
  • Develop, facilitate and maintain the plant and warehouse HACCP program
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal regulations by studying existing and new regulations; anticipating regulations; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on necessary actions
  • Update job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in food transportation management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

General Functions

  • Must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and any/all established processes , whether established by their manager, by the company or by law as well as assist with the communication, training, and enforcement of these
  • Must work in a safe manner and comply with all health, safety, security and emergency requirements that are communicated to you, whether established by your manager, by the company or by law
  • Must work in conjunction with Operations Safety Coordinator to ensure the communication, training, and enforcement of any/all safety policies, Code of Safety, and any all safety concerns and hazards
  • Must comply with all Company policies communicated to you through your Employee Manual, trainings, notice boards or other postings, or by a member of management as well as ensure the communication, training, and enforcement of these policies
  • Must participate in operations and safety meetings and attend other meetings as requested
  • Communicate companywide sustainability goals to Operations teams and manage resources to ensure that work is produced in the most sustainable manner and Companywide sustainability goals are met or exceeded
  • Other duties are requested

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent course work
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years warehouse and materials management of a food production/processing business, required
  • Must have experience working in food manufacturing industry; Dairy background strongly preferred
  • Proficient  knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel, Navision ERP, and HRIS software programs, required
  • Proficient bilingual – English, required; Spanish, preferred but not required

  • Working in a manufacturing/warehouse environment.
  • Extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers.  – Repetitive at times.
  • Full organoleptic (sight, smell, taste) as well as audio and vocal senses are necessary to evaluate and make sound decisions on product quality and production processes
  • The ability to climb and balance is essential
  • Ability to withstand temperatures ranging from -20° to 115° Fahrenheit
  • Working in cold, wet, humid environments
  • Ability to work in high allergen environments
  • Ability to withstand noise produced by manufacturing and warehouse machinery up to 90 decibels
  • Ability to lift, hold and/or carry 55 pounds, unassisted
  • Ability to work on a computer and look at a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Flexibility to work different shifts when required, to be on call after hours, and to work weekends
