Accessibility at Straus Family Creamery

We believe everyone should be able to learn about the food we make, the farms behind it, and the people who care for the land. That belief shapes the products we make, and it shapes this website too.

Our commitment

For more than 30 years, we’ve worked to do right by our community — our farmers, our customers, and the land we share. Building a website that’s accessible to everyone is part of that same commitment. Whether you visit our site using a screen reader, keyboard navigation, voice controls, or any other assistive technology, our goal is for you to find what you’re looking for and to feel welcome here.

The standard we follow

Our website is built and maintained with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA in mind. WCAG 2.1 AA is an internationally recognized standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium that covers how digital content can be made more usable for people with disabilities — including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive differences.

In practice, that means we work to ensure:

  • Text has sufficient color contrast and can be resized without loss of content
  • Images include descriptive alt text where they convey meaningful information
  • The site can be navigated using a keyboard alone
  • Headings and page structure are organized so screen readers can move through them logically
  • Links and buttons are clearly labeled and identifiable
  • Forms include accessible labels, error messages, and instructions

What we're doing on an ongoing basis

Accessibility isn’t a one-time project. We treat our website the same way we treat our farms — something to maintain and improve year over year.

  • We review the site regularly against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria.
  • We work with our development partners to address accessibility considerations as new content, features, and pages are built.
  • When we update or redesign sections of the site, we evaluate accessibility as part of the release.
  • We listen to feedback from people who use our site and prioritize fixes based on what we hear.

What we're still working on

We want to be honest about where we are. A modern website pulls in content from many sources, and not all of it is yet at the level we want it to be. We’re actively working on:

  • Embedded social media content. Posts from our Instagram feed and other social platforms are presented on our site as they appear on those platforms; some elements may not meet WCAG 2.1 AA in full. We’re evaluating ways to improve this.
  • Older recipes, news articles, and PDFs. Some content published before our most recent accessibility review may not meet current standards. We’re remediating these on a rolling basis, prioritizing the pages and documents most often visited.
  • Video content. We’re working to ensure all video on the site includes accurate captions and, where appropriate, descriptive transcripts.

If you encounter something on our site that isn’t working well for you, please tell us — your feedback helps us prioritize.

Third-party content

Some content on our site is hosted, embedded, or provided by third parties — for example, our store locator, social media feeds, and certain video players. We choose partners who share our commitment to accessibility, but we don’t have full control over their tools and platforms. Where third-party content presents a barrier, we’ll work to find an accessible alternative or provide the same information in another format.

Get in touch

If you have trouble accessing any part of our website, or if you have feedback on how we can do better, we want to hear from you. There are a few ways to reach us:

When you reach out, please share:

  • The page or content you were trying to access (a link is helpful)
  • The device, browser, and any assistive technology you were using
  • A short description of the issue you ran into

We aim to respond to accessibility-related messages within five business days. If a fix takes longer, we’ll let you know what we’re doing and offer the information you needed in another format in the meantime.

A note on alternatives

If there’s information on our site you need in a different format — large print, audio, plain text, or another accommodation — let us know and we’ll do our best to provide it.
