Committed to Organic Food in California Public Schools

On May 2, 2024, Project Cereal launched at a Farm-to-School Program event at Michelle Obama School in Richmond, CA, in West Contra Costa School District.

Surrounded by leaders such as Tony Thurmond, California State Superintendent of Schools, and Culinary Innovator Alice Waters, along with our Founder Albert Straus, we commemorated the launch of an impactful partnership between Nature’s Path Food Organic Cereal and Straus Family Creamery Organic Milk, extending support to schools across California.

This collaboration, led by Judi Shils and the passionate team at Turning Green’s Conscious Kitchen, signifies a profound commitment to nurturing young minds with wholesome, responsible food choices. As the program underscores, “feeding kids is not a business opportunity, it is a business responsibility.” The long-term goal is to have organic food in all California public schools.

We are deeply proud of our pivotal role in providing nourishing organic milk to Bay Area students. It all began in 2013 when we initiated the installation of milk dispensers for the Novato Unified School District. This helped minimize food waste and enabled better access to fresh, certified organic milk sourced directly from family farms in Marin and Sonoma Counties. This would not have been possible without the collaboration and leadership from Judi Shils and Conscious Kitchen—a Turning Green organization—and other dedicated partners.
