Expanding the number of certified organic and non-GMO verified dairies, one family farm at a time.
PETALUMA, Calif., (October 3, 2012) — Straus Family Creamery, the pioneering organic and non-GMO Verified creamery in Northern California’s Marin County, proudly announces bringing on Mazzetta Dairy, into the group of certified organic family-farm milk suppliers for the production of organic, cream-top milk, organic yogurt, organic ice cream, organic butter and organic sour cream.
Owned by Ken and Nancy Mazzetta, Mazzetta Dairy is located near Petaluma, with a dairy herd of 170 Holstein and Holstein-Jersey crossbred milking cows, on 485 acres of rolling hills in West Sonoma County.
To become a milk producer for Straus Family Creamery, the Mazzettas transitioned their land and herd to become certified organic, selling off their conventional herd and replacing it with a herd of certified organic cows. With this addition, Straus Family Creamery has a total of five organic milk suppliers, all of whom converted to certified-organic production in order to become part of the group.
Albert Straus, President of Straus Family Creamery, has assisted new dairies with the conversion to organic: “We are excited that demand for organic dairy products is strong enough for us to bring the Mazzetta Dairy on board. It promotes our mission of supporting small family farms in our local communities. “
Straus Family Creamery brings on additional milk suppliers for two reasons: To ensure an adequate supply of certified organic dairy products of exceptional quality; and to strengthen the community of small, family farms by providing stable pricing as well as personal relationships with each milk supplier.
Like all other Straus Family Creamery milk producers, Mazzetta Dairy is verified under the Non-GMO Project, a third-party verification organization, which ensures consumers that foods are free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Straus Family Creamery was the first organic dairy and creamery in the country to be verified and carry the Non-GMO Verification seal on its products.
