Straus Family Creamery Launches Two New Sizes: ½ lb. Butter and 8 oz. Sour Cream


Same delicious, organic products now offered in smaller packages

PETALUMA, Calif., (October 17, 2016) — Straus Family Creamery, the first 100% certified organic creamery in the United States, is expanding its product lineup with two new package sizes: European-Style Organic Butter is available in a ½ lb. size, in addition to its regular 1 lb. size. Organic Sour Cream is available in an 8 oz. size, in addition to its regular 16 oz. size. Both products are made from organic milk and cream supplied by local family farms in Marin and Sonoma Counties.

These new, smaller packages are great for smaller or single-person households who don’t consume large amounts of dairy products. They’re also perfect for recipes that call for small portions of butter or sour cream. The lower price of both products will make them accessible to a wider range of consumers, bringing Straus Family Creamery closer to its goal of creating equitable access to high quality, organic dairy products and supporting a thriving regional food system.

Both European-Style Organic Butter and Organic Sour Cream are minimally processed and made without fillers, stabilizers, or artificial colorings, so the pure flavor of Straus Family Creamery cream shines through. Our cows graze on the sweet grasses and silage that grow in the unique, coastal climate of western Marin and Sonoma Counties, and you can really taste the difference their diet makes.

Rich, sweet, and creamy, Straus Family Creamery’s European-Style Sweet Organic Butter and Salted Organic Butter contain 85% butterfat, higher than almost any other butter on the market. Both consumers and chefs love how it performs in baking, because its extremely low moisture level results in flakier pastry that browns more evenly. European-Style Organic Butter is available in ½ lb. recyclable packages at a suggested retail price of $5.19 at grocery stores throughout the Western United States.

Organic Sour Cream is made in small batches and slowly cultured, using a traditional 16-hour vat-set process. Three simple ingredients—organic milk, organic cream, and carefully selected enzymes—give our Organic Sour Cream the perfect flavor and tanginess. Organic Sour Cream is available in 8 oz. recyclable containers at a suggested retail price of $2.29 at grocery stores throughout the Western United States.

When Albert Straus converted his family’s dairy to organic production in 1994, becoming the first certified organic dairy west of the Mississippi, he spearheaded a model that reflects the true costs of milk production and promotes sustainable land stewardship.
